Minister Shyaka calls for scale up of security and hygiene campaign
The Minister of Local Government, Prof. Anastase Shyaka recognized the impact of the joint partnership between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the City of Kigali in keeping the capital clean, green and safe.
Minister Shyaka was speaking Saturday at the closing of the 8th edition of the Security and Hygiene campaign, held at Amahoro Stadium.
‘’The theme--keeping Kigali clean, green and safe--is an impactful campaign which should be scaled up to a ‘clean, green and safe Rwanda, we will support you,’’ Minister Shyaka said. Read more
IGP Munyuza attends graduation of Police Officers in South Sudan
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza attended the graduation ceremony of the 'Integrated Police Officers' course held in the capital Juba.
The graduation of 420 officers was presided over by the First Vice President of South Sudan, Gen.Taban Deng.
The Vice President, commended the Government of Rwanda for the "good bilateral cooperation" and for supporting capacity building and skills development of SSNPS. He urged the graduands to be defined by professionalism in their policing career.

IGP Dan Munyuza joins Martyrs' Day Celebrations in South Sudan
On his third day of the official visit in south sudan, this Tuesday, IGP Dan Munyuza paid a courtesy call to his counterpart Gen Majak Acek of South Sudan.
The Police Chiefs discussed how to enhance Police-Police cooperation especially in the areas of crime prevention, information sharing, exchange of training and capacity building programmes, sharing expertise and best practice in various fields. Read more
IGP Munyuza visits Rwandan Police peacekeepers in South Sudan
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on Wednesday, visited Rwanda Police peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
The visit was part of the IGP's four-day official visit in South Sudan.
He commended the peacekeepers for the "good job" they are doing in the mission especially protection of civilians.
He urged them to "uphold discipline and keep Rwanda’s flag high."
IGP Munyuza also met with the UNMISS leadership including the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to UNMISS, Moustapha Somaire and Police Commissioner, Unaisi Bolatolu-Vuniwaqa and the Police Chief of Staff, ACP Barthelemy Rugwizangoga.
The discussions with the leadership focused on the good working relations between UNMISS and Rwanda National Police (RNP). Read more
Police Month: Environmental protection takes centre stage in community meetings
Environmental conservation dominated discussions in community gatherings across the country on Tuesday as Police, local leaders and experts highlighted human behaviours that affect nature, and enlightened them on modern ways of living with a deeper respect and understanding of conservation practices.
The discussions were in-line with the ongoing week dedicated to environmental protection, which is part of the Police Month launched three weeks ago.
Among the highlighted human practices affecting the environment include use and littering of non-biodegradable plastic bags, bush burning, cutting of trees for charcoal burning or encroaching on gazetted areas like forests, national parks as well as farming and mining practices on water banks. Transporters urged to facilitate students going back to school
Police urged transporters to facilitate students who are going back to school since Friday.
The Ministry of Education released a directory for third term school curriculum, which starts Monday, August 5.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jean Marie Ndushabandi, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety department appealed to transporters to facilitate the students to arrive at their respective schools early.
"These students will be in bus terminals, trading centres or along roads waiting for vehicles to take them to school. We urge drivers and motorcyclists to facilitate them, give them priority to get to school in time. There are specific hours when they are expected at school because of their safety," SSP Ndushabandi said. Read more
Police Month: Quantities of polythene bags impounded
The environmental protection campaign continued Thursday across the country with focus on fighting the sell and use of non-biodegradable plastic bags.
Varied quantities of prohibited plastic bags were seized in operations conducted in all districts countrywide.
In Gakenke District alone, Police and local leaders confiscated at least 1,600 cartons of polythene bags.
Similar operations conducted in districts of the Eastern Province yielded into the seizure of 740 cartons of the nylon bags.
At least five boxes of the non-biodegradable products were also taken from shops in the City of Kigali. Read more
Increased Police marine operations paying off
Police have cautioned against illegal activities in water bodies and intensified operations to fight acts that affect aquatic animals and endanger people's lives.
The Commanding Officer for the Police Marine Unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Elias Mwesigye said that increased operations in water bodies in different parts of the country led to the arrest of over 160 poachers between January and July, this year.
"We also seized over 5300 illegal or substandard fishing nets during the same period," ACP Mwesigye said. Read more
Couple arrested with 40,000 pellets of cannabis
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) has arrested a couple suspected to be one of the major traffickers and suppliers of narcotic drugs in the City of Kigali.
Jean Pierre Harerimana alias Kennedy and his wife Zawadi Nyirahabimana, were arrested Wednesday in Gacuriro Cell, Kinyinya Sector of Gasabo District with 40,000 pellets of cannabis, concealed in fives bundles.
While parading the suspects to the media in Remera on Thursday, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie-Gorette Umutesi, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said that Police, through an informer, tracked Harerimana from Rubavu to Kigali. Read more
Mufti calls on Muslim youth to be good ambassadors
The Mufti of Rwanda Muslim Community (RMC), Sheikh Salim Hitimana has called upon the Muslim youth to stick to the true teachings of their religion and give no ears to radicalized people, who define the Quran differently so as to lure them into criminal activities.
He reminded them that they are ambassadors and they should reflect Rwandan values especially when they meet different people from other countries all over the world.
He noted that to prevent radical sympathies, the young people should share information about such tendencies to security organs to quickly curtail the development of extreme radicalization amongst Rwandan youth. Read more
