RNP hands over 30 houses to vulnerable beneficiaries
Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Saturday, handed over houses it constructed for the selected disadvantaged families in different parts of the country.
One three-bedroom house fully equipped with interiors and beddings was constructed in each of the 30 districts of the country.
While addressing thousands of residents in Cyumba, Minister Busingye thanked RNP for going beyond its usual physical security of the people to improve thier livelihoods.
"The last 19 years of RNP dedicated and quality services to the people have not been in vain, we have a safer and secure country, and this is because of the strong partnership with the people and other government and private institutions," Minister Busingye said. Read more
RNP participates in US, Africa exercise
Forty-three Rwanda National Police (RNP) officers are taking part in the “Shared Accord 2019” military exercise, which was officially launched on Wednesday at Gabiro Combat Training Center in Gatsibo District.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Safari Uwimana, the exercise Police Commissioner, the role of Police in the exercise will be “crowd control, rescue missions, VIP protection and providing First Aid.”
“Police will be having a critical role that involves mentoring host police, public order management, escorting VIP, human security and doing cordon and search in rescuing,” said ACP Safari. Read more
RNP covers medical insurance premium for 3000 less privileged people
Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Tuesday, handed over about 3000 medical insurances to the disadvantaged people selected in different parts of the country.
The medical insurance cover is part of the Police Month human security and community policing activities launched mid-last month.
The handover was done during the evening of parents locally known as Umugoroba w’Ababyeyi, a social cohesion activity conducted in villages every Tuesday, which brings together elders to discuss varied community issues related to security and development.
Beneficiaries were previously selected by the same forum of Umugoroba w’Ababyeyi. Read more
Gerayo Amahoro: Road safety education now target thousands of schools
The national road safety campaign dubbed ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ was launched in schools on Tuesday as Rwanda National Police (RNP) and partners shift focus to educating students on safe road usage.
The two-month campaign to be conducted by RNP and the association of owners of driving schools in Rwanda (ANAPAER), targets 2, 379 primary and 1, 647 secondary schools across the country.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Rafiki Mujiji, the Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety department said Police officers across the country will engage students on basic traffic rules and rights of road users. Read more
Nyagatare: Police, youth volunteers donate blood
Police officers operating in Nyagatare District were joined by members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) in the district to donate blood.
The blood donation, which followed a general sports exercise was in line with the ongoing Police Month.
The mayor of Nyagatare, David Claudian Mushabe presided over the event held at University of Rwanda-Nyagatare Campus.
Police officers and youth volunteers donated about 27, 000 ml of blood.
Mayor Mushabe thanked those who donated blood and appealed to residents to have a "life-saving heart." Read more
Teachers, students welcome road safety campaign in schools
In line with Gerayo Amahoro, a year-long national road safety campaign, Rwanda National Police (RNP) in partnership with the union of driving schools in Rwanda (ANAPAER) and National Children Council (NCC), on Friday, sensitized students and their teachers on road safety in different primary and secondary schools across the country.
The campaign was conducted in over 30 schools across the country.
Juuko Robert, a teacher at Excella School lauded RNP for educating their students how to use the road or move in the car safely.
“We are so privileged to have police officers today teaching us and students, because there are so many things we ignore or don't know when using the road but now at least they have found some lights on them. I am so grateful; I have even urged my students to share the message to those who have not attended this session. Rwamagana: Woman arrested with 2400 pellets of cannabis
Police in Rwamagana District has arrested a woman identified as Fatuma Ngendakumana, in possession of 2400 pellets of cannabis.
The narcotics were recovered Thursday in her house located in Kigabiro Sector, Cyanya cell.
Police said the arrest of Ngendakumana followed a tip-off from members of the public, who suspected her to be a drug trafficker. Read more
Nyagatare: Residents commended for standing up against drug dealers
Community Policing efforts in Nyagatare District led to the seizure of assorted illicit gin, including 66 boxes of African gin, 64 boxes of Zebra waragi and 163 litres of kanyanga.
Others include cannabis, Soft Gin and locally distilled illicit brew
The District Police Commander for Nyagatare, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Claude Bizimana said that the illicit drugs were seized in the five sectors of Karangazi, Rwempasha, Matimba, Tabagwe and Kiyombe. Read more
Police Handball Club starts training ahead of EAPCCO games
The National Handball champions, Police Handball Club have started intensive training ahead of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) games to be held in Nairobi, Kenya from August 25. Police is the EAPCCO handball champions.
Immediately after EAPCCO games we will also represent Rwanda in Africa handball champions League in Cape Verde in October and the Eastern Africa and Central Africa Handball Federations Cup (ECAHF) which will be played in December in Kigali. Read more
