Over 100 Police officers donate blood

More than 100 Police officers, on Saturday, donated blood as part of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) healthy development programmes to boost the national blood bank.

The exercise was held at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru where Police officers at all ranks donated 44, 550 milliters of blood.

It is the sixth time since March 2017 when RNP and Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) partnered to boost the National Centre for Blood Transfusion (NCBT), and second time this year that Police officers operating in the City of Kigali have donated blood.

Dr. Thomas Muyombo, the Director for Regional Centre for Blood Transfusion (RCBT) Kigali, who presided over the exercise, thanked the officers and RNP in general for making blood donation a norm. Read more

Regional Police institutions sign pact to combat cross-border crimes


Seven regional Police institutions, on Thursday, signed a cooperation pact to join efforts against transnational and organized crimes.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza attended the two-day meeting on “Transnational and Emerging Crimes” in Tanzania and signed on behalf of Rwanda National Police (RNP).

Other countries are the host Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda and Mozambique.

The agreement emphasizes collective efforts against radicalization, violent extremism and terrorism. It also highlights information and intelligence sharing, exchange of criminals and repatriation of exhibits, and joint training.

A joint Permanent Committee was also established to coordinate the implementation of the agreement. Read more

Police Senior Command students in Beijing for ‘external study tour’

Police students attending the 7th intake of the Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC) at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District conducted a week-long external study tour in Beijing, China as part of the one year course.

At least 30 Police students from nine African countries are attending the course, which offers a Master’s in Peace Studies and Conflict Transformation.

The students are from Sudan, Namibia, Nigeria, Liberia, South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Central African Republic (CAR) and Rwanda, the host.

In Beijing, the officers and their trainers are headed by the commandant of NPC, Commissioner of Police (CP) Christophe Bizimungu.

On the first day of their external tour on Monday, they visited the People’s Public Security University of China (PPSUC), where they were received by the university president, Mr. CAO Shiquang.

CP Bizimungu and Mr. Shiquang emphasized cooperation between the two Police institutions. Read more.

Breaking drugs supply chain: Over 130kgs of cannabis seized from traffickers

Two people said to be part of the same drug trafficking ring were arrested in separate Police operations conducted in Rubavu and Nyarugenge districts.

Police also recovered over 125kgs and 1230 rolls of cannabis from the traffickers during the operations conducted Thursday.

The Police spokesperson for the Western region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, said the suspects and the narcotics were intercepted in the “coordinated targeted operations conducted by the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Units (ANU) and Police stations.” Read more

Rwamagana: Stolen school computers recovered


A joint Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Investigations Bureau (RIB) security operation in Rwamagana District recovered sixteen school laptops previously stolen from Nyarubuye Catholic primary school located in Munyiginya cell, Nyarubuye, Buyinja village in the Eastern Province.

According to the Eastern Region Police Spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the sixteen laptops meant for ‘one laptop per child’ project were recovered from a nearby bush by a pedestrian who reported the matter to police.

“Twenty computers went missing on April 19, from the school since then efforts have been ongoing to arrest suspects and recovering the property” said CIP Twizeyimana. Read more
