New Inspector General of Police assumes office

The official handover held at Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru was presided over by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnston Busingye.

It was also graced by the State Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Evode Uwizeyimana, , Deputy IGPs; CP Felix Namuhoranye in charge of Operations and DCG Juvenal Marizamunda for Administration and Personnel; Prosecutor General Jean Bosco Mutangana, Secretary General-Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) Jeannot Ruhunga and, the Permanent Secretary and Solicitor General, Beata Mukeshimana among others.

Minister Busingye commended His Excellency the President of the Republic for appointing the new leadership and continued guidance to RNP. 

He further  commended the outgoing Police Chief, who was also appointed the Governor of Southern Province, for his dedication, sacrifice, loyalty and personality during his period at the helm of the Police Force. Read more

Revenue Protection Unit recover taxes worth Rwf354 million

On October 6, Police in Rubavu District intercepted a vehicle that was loaded with assorted smuggled goods. The vehicle intercepted in Gisenyi sector of Nengo cell in Urubyiruko Village was mainly loaded with liquors, bales of clothes and powdered milk, among others.

The goods had been sneaked into the country through a porous border from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to the Commanding Officer of Revenue Protection Unit (RPU) Chief Supt. Alphonse Busingye, liquors, energy drinks, second-hand clothes, powdered milk and food spices are some of the majority goods seized in anti-fraud and smuggling operations.

RPU was formerly established in 2012 to deter, detect, and prevent smuggling, tax evasion and other breaches of revenue laws.

Other functions include fighting against corruption within the revenue services, minimize fraudulent acts, protect government revenue, improve efficiency of revenue collection and heighten public awareness of the effects of fraud.

“In the first quarter of the 2018/2019 fiscal year alone we recovered over Rwf354 million in taxes. This involve taxes that otherwise would have been evaded, and penalties,” Chief Supt. Businge said. Read more

Nyagagatare: Rt. Rev Birindabagabo calls for concerted efforts against narcotic drugs

Rt. Rev. Alexis Birindabagabo has called for concerted efforts between the Police, the clergy and all public and private entities as well as the general public to address the continuous pressing concern of illicit drugs in the country.

Rt. Rev. Birindabagabo made the call on October 14, in Rwimiyaga Sector of Nyagatare District where psychotropic substances valued at about Rwf2.7 million, were disposed of.

The campaign against drugs was organized by Rt. Rev. Birindabagabo under the theme: “The role of the church in the elimination and control of illicit drugs among the youth.”

Present, among others, was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) Prof. Anastase Shyaka, Nyagatare mayor Claudian Mushabe, the District Police Commander (DPC) Senior Supt. Pierre Tebuka and members of the clergy from various churches in Nyagatare as well as thousands of Nyagatare residents.

Rt. Rev. Birindabagabo, who heads the inter-religious efforts to eliminate illicit drugs, reminded the residents that they are the first responders in combating the vice and protecting the young generation, who are the majority victims of illicit drugs. Read more

Nyamasheke: Youth volunteers urged to take a lead in promoting human security

Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) from Nyamasheke District were yesterday urged to step up their efforts mobilizing community against malnutrition as human security hindrance

The call was made during a special Umuganda held in Kitabi Sector which brought together members of RYVCP and officers of Rwanda National Police operating in Nyamasheke district.

Present was the Mayor of Nyamasheke district, Bonaventure Uwamahoro, who led the energetic youth in constructing five  toilets, 10 organic gardens (uturima tw’igikoni) and RYVCP also donated goats to venerable families

In his address, the Mayor hailed the role of youth volunteers in community development, social welfare, security and crime prevention. He also challenged them to multiply their efforts in ensuring human security and development with precise focus on fighting and reduction of malnutrition as a concern affecting Nyamasheke district. [PHOTOS]: Police FC coach looks at “impressive season” ahead of 2018/2019 League

Police Football Club head coach Albert Joel Mphande said the “team is ready for a challenge” and promised an “impressive season”.

The 2018/2019 Azam National Football League kicks off this Friday and Police will start the campaign on Sunday away against Muhanga FC

“We have been training throughout the entire pre-season period, the institution (Rwanda National Police) gave me everything I had asked for to build a good team ahead of the new season including players, so the failure will be ours,” the Zambian tactician said.

He added: “I have a team of youthful players that is ready for the challenge; it is a team that is ready to compete for any trophy in all tournaments.”  Read More
