DIGP Marizamunda attends Eswatini 'Police Day'
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda attended Eswatini's Police Day, which was marked on August 9.
Representing Rwanda National Police (RNP) leadership, DIGP Marizamunda paid a courtesy call to the National Commissioner of the Royal Eswatini Police Services, W.W. Dlamini.
They discussed matters related to bilateral cooperation in various areas of policing especially training and capacity building. Read more
Human errors blamed for fire incidents
Majority of fire incidents are caused by human errors, especially in homes, restaurants, workshops and bush fires, Police have said.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Baptiste Seminega, the Commanding Officer (CO) for Fire and Rescue Brigade at Rwanda National Police (RNP), most of the errors are related to use of substandard electric cables, welding machines and overloading the electric wiring system causing short circuit, and poor electric installation in houses resulting from using lay electricians.Read more
Police Month: Cyclists told to respect traffic rules
The week-long road safety campaign continued Friday across the country with focus on cyclists, who were warned against reckless road usage resulting into fatal accidents.
While speaking to cyclists in Nyarugenge District, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teddy Ruyenzi, the Deputy Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety department in charge of Administration, reminded them that traffic rules and regulations are meant to guide and save lives of all road users, and must be respected.
Related messages were also delivered to cyclists across the country where they were also warned against climbing or holding onto the back of moving vehicles, using a phone when riding, as well as speeding on descending steep-slopes. Cyclists were also urged to ensure body hygiene. Read more
Another drug trafficker arrested in Rubavu
A woman identified as Feza Uwamahirwe, 37, was arrested mid this week in Rubavu District with 10 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the Police Spokesperson for the Western Region said that Police and local leaders in Rubavu sector responded to information from residents about Uwamahirwe's drug dealings. Read more
Huye: Residents warned against environmental degradation
Rwanda National Police (RNP) has warned communities living around Ibisi bya Huye forest to desist from destroying the gazetted forest.
The caution follows separate cases where people have been caught cutting trees in this forest.
According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, 28 people have been arrested in the forest over the past one week. Read more
Rulindo: Residents warned against drugs
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) arrested two suspected drug traffickers in Rulindo District with 9, 218 pellets of cannabis.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region identified the suspects as Melani Hakizimana and Jack Tuyishimire. The narcotics were concealed in two bundles. Read more
Police Month: Special hire drivers cautioned against violating road safety standards
Special hire drivers were cautioned against speeding and violation of crosswalks, putting lives of their passengers and pedestrians at risk.
While addressing special hire drivers operating in the City of Kigali on Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teddy Ruyenzi, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Administration for Traffic and Road Safety Department, observed that taxi-drivers are found of “speeding through pedestrian crosswalks and racing against time.”
“These behaviors should change, respect every roadside traffic signpost. Speeding through crosswalks not only denies pedestrians their rights but it puts their lives as risk as well. We want drivers, passengers and pedestrians to change their behaviors, respect traffic rules to avoid preventable fatalities,” ACP Ruyenzi said. Read more
Motorcyclists urged to observe traffic rules
Taxi-moto operators in the City of Kigali were urged to observe traffic rules and regulations to safeguard their lives and those of their passengers.
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Gerard Mpayimana, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations for Traffic and Road Safety Department made the call on Tuesday while addressing about 5000 commercial motorcyclists operating in Kigali.
CSP Mpayimana said that safety on the road should be the responsibility of every road user, however some motorcyclists’ inappropriate and reckless riding behaviours continue to cause accidents and loss of lives. Read more
