KWIBUKA25: RNP commemorate
The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), Dr. Jean-Damascène Bizimana urged Police officers stand for the principal of impartiality, rule of law and fighting any form of impunity.
He was speaking on April 11, at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru where he addressed hundreds of Police officers as part of the force’s 25th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Present was also the Deputy IGPs; Juvenal Marizamunda of Administration and Personnel, and Felix Namuhoranye of Operations as well as commissioners. Read more
Rwandan peacekeepers commemorate Genocide
Rwandan Police, military and correctional service peacekeepers across the world, on April 7, joined the rest of the Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to mark the 25th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The peacekeepers in Central African Republic (CAR), South Sudan, Darfur, Haiti and Abyei were joined by senior government and top UN officials, fellow peacekeepers, Rwandans living or working in these countries as well as clerics and local residents
Wreaths were laid, frame of remembrance lit and a minute of silence observed across all missions in honour of more than one million innocent lives massacred 25 years ego. Read more

Nyarugenge: Vehicle impounded with smuggled goods
Police in Nyarugenge District have impounded an Isuzu Trooper registration number RAB 761U, that was carrying assorted smuggled goods.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Gorett Umutesi, the Central region Police spokesperson, said the vehicle was impounded on April 11, after information reached the Revenue Protection Unit (RPU) that it was transporting smuggled goods.
The goods that include 10 bales of secondhand clothes—caguwa—and saucepans were first smuggled and hidden at Kiti kinyoni before smugglers hired the intercepted vehicle to transport them to the final destination. Read more
Rubavu: Seven arrested over environmental degradation
Seven people were arrested in Kanzenze Sector, Rubavu District for allegedly degrading Gishwati-Mukura National Park.
The suspects were arrested red-handed while cutting trees in part of the forest in Muramba Village, Muramba Cell.
“On Thursday at about 5:30pm, Police in Kanzenze received information that a group of people was cutting trees in the gazetted Gishwati National Park, Police responded and found seven residents of Muramba, who were arrested and handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau at Kanama,” Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said.
“Most of those arrested are either cutting trees for building or firewood, livestock farming and with rare cases related to charcoal burning,” he added. Read more
RUSIZI: Attempted drug trafficking foiled
Bosco Habiyambere, 51, Vedaste Nzeyimana, 32, and Theogene Munezero, 28, could have succeeded trafficking narcotics into the country not once or twice, but their luck run-out on April 10.
Earlier that evening of April 10, Police at Kamembe station in Rusizi District received a phone call from a resident with information of three people suspected to be trafficking cannabis.
“The caller specified the commuter vehicle the suspects had boarded from Mururu Sector and that it was headed to Nyamagabe District,” Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said.
“A snap-check was mounted and at exactly 8:40pm, the vehicle showed up, it was stopped, the three people were identified, searched and they found about 10kgs combined wrapped around their bodies covered with clothes. They were immediately taken into custody over the crime,” CIP Gasasira explained. Read more
Crackdown on motorcycle theft in Nyagatare
Three motorcycles recovered from suspect thieves in Nyagatare District were handed over to the rightful owners.
The bikes were recovered separately from four thieves. Two of the motorcycles; RE 702K and RB 312E recovered back in February from two thieves identified as Janvier Sebanani and Jean Paul Niyomuremyi, who were convicted of the crime and serving their prison sentences, were handed over to the owner Vital Bemeriki, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Another motorcycle; RD 686P was recovered on April 9, in Rukomo Sector from the suspected thief identified as Moise Manishimwe. It was reported stolen on April 6, in Tabagwe Sector.
According to Theogene Munyengabe, the rightful owner of the motorcycle (RD 686P), he gave it to one Manirambona, who had it at the time it was stolen in the trading centre in Tabangwe, where he had parked it. Read more
Fighting smuggling: 30 bales of clothes seized in Rusizi
At least 30 bales of used clothes commonly know as caguwa, were seized in Rusizi District on April 8, as they were being smuggled into the country.
The suspected smuggler identified as Kazungu Jean Paul was at the time attempting to cross through the water from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Police said.
Chief Inspector of Police Innocent Gasasira, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said that "those hired to smuggle the goods exhibited the community policing spirit and called the Police." Read more
