Rwandan peacekeepers celebrate Liberation

Rwandan Police, military and correctional service peacekeepers deployed in various UN missions across the globe, on June 4, joined the rest of Rwandans to mark the 25th Liberation anniversary.

In Central African Republic (CAR) celebrations that were also attended by senior government officials and top UN officials, were held in two separate areas where Rwandan peacekeepers are deployed; in Socatel M’poko in the capital Bangui and Kaga-Bandoro, about 400km from the capital.

In South Sudan, the Rwandan peacekeepers deployed in Malakal under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), were also joined by Rwandans living in Malakal, other peacekeepers, local officials and residents. Read more

Police Handball Club crowned 2019 champions


Police Handball Club was on Saturday crowned the 2019 champions after overcoming APR 31-26 in the second leg of the National Handball Championship.

The law enforcers, who came into the 2019 season as defending champions, made the mark following their 35-31 win in the first leg.

Both teams made it to the finals after eliminating their opponents in play-offs. Read more

Gerayo Amahoro: Police remind road users to respect traffic rules

Police have reminded all categories of road users to mind their safety while using the road.

They were also cautioned against inappropriate and dangerous use of road which results into fatal accidents.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety, said that the ongoing national Gerayo Amahoro--arrive safely--campaign is creating impact, but added that there are some drivers whose behaviours continue to cause accidents and loss of lives. Regional training on GBV ends at Police Training School

The Commandant of Police Training School (PTS) Gishari, Commissioner of Police (CP) Vianney Nshimiyimana said that human resource development forms the backbone of every country’s growth.

He said that Rwanda shall always welcome any opportunity for any integration, development of security forces and other stakeholders in fighting crimes related to Sexual and Gender Based Violence.

The Commandant made the remarks on Friday while closing the two-week Eastern Africa Standby Force Gender Mainstreaming, Sexual and Gender Based Violence course at PTS-Gishari. Read more

Nyamasheke: Police impound funeral service van for smuggling


A funeral service vehicle was impounded on Thursday in Ruharambuga Sector of Nyamasheke District after it was found transporting 14 bales of smuggled secondhand clothes and shoes, commonly known as Caguwa.

Eight bales contained used shoes and six others of clothes.

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that earlier that evening, the District Police Unit of Nyamasheke received a phone call from an informer in Kamembe about two people, who had smuggled quantities of secondhand clothes and shoes into the country from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo. Security organs in joint efforts against GBV


The Regional Center of Excellence on Gender Based Violence and Child Abuse has begun a series of capacity building trainings for security organs in Rwanda to harmonise their understanding and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The training that will be conducted in all districts across the country brings together Rwanda National Police (RNP), Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF), Immigration, Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) and District Administrative Security Support Organ (DASSO).

Gerayo Amahoro: Police, partners shift to protection of infrastructure


The ongoing year-long national road safety campaign dubbed ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ continued this Tuesday with the launch of the infrastructure protection month.

The month of July is dedicated to infrastructure protection and shall involve erecting road safety signposts, repainting pedestrian walks and establishing new ones where they don't exist and yet required.

The first week of the campaign will focus in the City of Kigali and the Northern Province before shifting to other regions. Read more

Truck driver arrested with forged mechanical inspection certificate


A truck driver was arrested Monday in Huye District after he was found with a forged motor-vehicle inspection certificate.

The arrest of Javier Habineza is part of the Police crackdown on automobiles and drivers using forged traffic related documents. Read more

Fighting narcotics: Police warn against using minors

As Rwanda National Police (RNP) continues the fight against narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, the force has warned of “severe consequences” to anyone that involves minors in such criminal activities.

The warning comes after a resident of Zirambi Village, Ruyenzi Cell, Ruheru Sector of Nyaruguru District, on Sunday, caught a 17-year old boy with 7kgs of cannabis.

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonavanture Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, they are looking for the man, who was using the minor in trafficking drugs. Read more
