RNP media weekly review

Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Tanzania Police Force (TPF), held a bilateral meeting on Tuesday to strategize on cross-border policing matters.

The meeting held on the Tanzanian side of Rusumo border post was co-chaired by both Police Chiefs; Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza of Rwanda and his Tanzanian counterpart Simon N. Sirro.

It was also attended by the Governor of Eastern Province Fred Mufurukye and his counterpart of Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC) Brig Gen. Marco Elisha Gaguti as well as senior Police officers, migration and local leaders from both sides.

The modern security challenges, he observed, demand to open doors for strong bilateral and multilateral police cooperation, and enhance exchange of best practices, joint operations and training, timely information sharing and exchange of exchange of criminals. 

He, however, highlighted five major security concerns which require concerted efforts; radicalization and terrorism, human and drug trafficking, road safety and tracking of fugitives. Read More

Gatsibo: Three arrested over theft of school computers

Three people have been arrested in Gatsibo District in connection with stealing 18 school computer laptops. 

The laptops belonging to Rwisirabo secondary school went missing from the school computer laboratory on October 27, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Theobald Kanamugire the Eastern region Police spokesperson, said.

At the time of their arrest on October 29, CIP Kanamugire said, the trio was found with one of the stolen laptops. Read More

Nyarugenge: Kung-fu clubs up against drugs

The clubs are MANTIS Kung-fu, Juma, African Empire and Sport Friends.

It was held under the theme: The role of sports in fighting drugs and gender based violence towards sustainable development.

Five illegal money changers arrested in Rubavu

Five illegal money changers have been arrested in a Police operation conducted on Tuesday in Gisenyi Sector of Rubavu District.

Police spokesperson for the Western region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira said that the suspects, all women, were “arrested red-handed exchanging money at Petit border post with Democratic Republic of Congo.”

He identified the suspects as Aimerence Nikuze, Anitha Uwambajimana, Virginia Uwimana and Marie Claire Nbajimana.

The fifth suspect is a minor, CIP Gasasira said.

“They were found with varied amounts of money in different currencies including Rwanda and Congolese francs, and US dollars. They suspects and exhibits have since been handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau in Gisenyi,” he said. Read More

Kicukiro: Residents apprehend suspected thief, recover Rwf1 million

Residents of Ihuriro Village in Karambo Cell, Gatenga Sector in Kicukiro District, on October 31, pursued and apprehended a suspected thief who had broken into the car and stole Rwf1 million.

According to the Police spokesperson for the Central region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi; Samuel Murebwa, 38, was identified by a private security guard, who was nearby.

“The security guard immediately reached out to the owner of the vehicle, who was also nearby, to check if something had been stolen in his car only to find that the envelope that contained the money was missing,” CIP Kayigi said. Read More

Burera: Assorted goods seized in anti-smuggling, drug trafficking operation

Police in Burera District seized assorted goods and narcotic drugs that had been sneaked into the country through an illegal border in Cyanika Sector.

They were intercepted on November 2, along Cyanika-Musanze road in a targeted operation against smuggling and trafficking of narcotic drugs, and other illegal goods.

Those impounded include cartoons of Nile Water, 210Kgs of maize flour, liquors, soft and energy drinks. 

Also seized include 100 cartons of plastic bags.

A 2008 ban on manufacturing, importation, use and sale of plastic bags has earned Rwanda international recognition in environment conservation.

According to the law, factories found using banned plastic bags should face a fine of between Rwf100,000 and Rwf500,000 with owners facing jail term of six to twelve months. Read More

Police FC maintain fine performance

Skipper Eric Ngendahimana and Jean Marie  Vianney Muvandimwe were on target as Police FC beat Nyamagabe-based Amagaju FC 2-1 on Friday. 

It was Day Four of Azam Rwanda Premier League and third successive win for the law enforcers. Read More
