RNP, FERWAFA partner in promoting road safety

Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the Federation of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) joined partnership to further influence road users' actions to respect traffic rules and regulations.

The partnership was launched on Day One of the National Football League at Amahoro stadium during the match between Rayon Sports and Gasogi Football Club.

Under this partnership, verbal and static messages will be conveyed at all national league matches throughout the season. Read more

Rwandan peacekeepers in CAR in hygiene drive

The Rwandan police and military peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA) as well as Rwandan Diaspora, on Saturday, joined residents in the capital Bangui in a communal work--Umuganda--which was dedicated to promoting sanitation and hygiene.

The Rwanda military battalion (RWABATT 6) and two Police contingents; Formed Police Unit (RWAFPU I-V) and Protection Support Unit (PSU 1-IV) joined residents in the 3rd and 5th districts to collect littered plastic bags and other wastes, clean water channels and clearing bushy areas.

The communal work also aimed at further strengthening partnership with the local residents in peace, safety and security aspects, and to fight diseases caused by lack of sanitation and hygiene. Read more

Rwamagana: Cyclists commit to crime prevention

Commercial cyclists in Kigabiro Sector, Rwamagana District have committed to supporting community policing efforts by identifying and reporting wrongdoers.

The commitment was made Thursday during the Police anti-crime awareness campaign when they met over 450 members of COTRAVERWA, a cooperative of cyclists in Kigabiro.

The meeting tackled five key security issues; road safety and drunken riding, fighting trafficking, sell and abuse of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances; fighting child labour—serving alcoholic drinks to minors and child sexual violence. Read more

DIGP Marizamunda attends AU meeting on Police cooperation


The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda attended the 3rd General Assembly of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), in Algiers, Algeria.

The 3rd General Assembly of AFRIPOL provides an opportunity for African Police Chiefs to deliberate on functional and organizational aspects, and exchange views and experiences on preventing and combating various forms of transnational organized crime.Read more

Police Junior Command students conduct internal study tour


Thirty-six officers, who are currently attending the 'Police Junior Command and Staff Course' at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District conducted a one-day study tour on Wednesday.

The officers, who were led by the Commandant of the College, Commissioner of Police (CP) Christophe Bizimungu, include four Allied Students; three from South Sudan and one from Chad.

The study tour is part of their four-month course, which covers both academic and professional Police studies.  The tour was conducted under the theme: “Patriotism a pillar to sustainable peace and security." Read more

Drunk driving and bad choices


Drinking can be fun, relaxing and a good way to socialize with friends and loved ones, but when not done responsibly it can be dangerous.

UN Police course opens at PTS


A two-week United Nations Police Officer Course (UNPOC) for Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) opened last Monday at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.

Fifty eight Police officers from nine EASF member countries, including 22 females, are taking part in the ninth intake.

Participating countries are Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and Rwanda, the host.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, while opening the course, said that part of the African continent continues to be tormented by intrastate conflicts.

"Such conflicts, coupled with international and organized crimes seriously hamper our continent's development efforts; peacekeeping remains one of the most effective tools available to AU/UN in their efforts to respond to such threats to peace and security," DIGP Marizamunda said. Read more
