RNP, RCS officers graduate at National Police College

Twenty-nine officers, on Friday, completed the fifth intake of the ‘Police Junior Command and Staff Course’ at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District.

Graduands include 26 Police officers and three from Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS).

The Police Junior Command and Staff Course is one of the programmes that were introduced by Rwanda National Police (RNP) to ensure a comprehensive approach to human resource development by combining professional and academic aspects. Read more

Zambia, Zimbabwe students visit Police Training School Gishari

Fifteen students from the University of Zambia-Zimbabwe Open University, on Wednesday, visited Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District as part of their study tour in Rwanda

Led by the Deputy Director for Institute of Distance Education at the University of Zambia, Dr. Daniel Ndhlovu, the delegation was received by the commandant of PTS, Commissioner of Police (CP) Vianney Nshimiyimana.

The commandant briefed them on the history of the school and its journey since the year 2000, when it was transformed into PTS from communal Police training school.

He took them through the school training structures and the courses it offers. Read more

Rwandan peacekeepers in South Sudan share experience on women empowerment

The female-dominated Formed Police Unit Three (FPU-3) serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) hosted a UN Police Women Network meeting last Wednesday to discuss issues faced by women in conflicts.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teddy Ruyenzi, RWAFPU-3 contingent commander, the meeting deliberated on issues affecting women police officers, protecting their female counterparts in war-torn countries and fighting crimes women face, among others. Read more

Rwandan Police Peacekeepers in CAR in hygiene drive

The Rwanda Protection Support Unit (PSU) contingent serving under the United Nations Multi-Dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA) launched a water distribution campaign last Tuesday to promote sanitation and hygiene.

The peacekeepers distributed clean water to communities in Saint Paul I village of District 7 of the capital Bangui. The dry period affected some parts of Bangui, which forces residents to either use unsafe water or walk long distances to the nearest clean water source.

The PSU-Rwanda contingent commander, Chief Supt. Emmanuel Kabanda said the clean water distribution exercise aims at improving the living conditions and wellbeing of the citizens.

Patrice Mbalapo, the chairman of Saint Paul I Village, said that the support by the Rwandan peacekeepers defines the good relations with the people. Read more

Rwanda launches ‘Global Road Safety Week’

Rwanda, last week, joined the rest of the world to mark the 5th UN Global Road Safety Week as part of the drive to reverse one of the leading causes of death in the world.

Thousands of road users including drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, employees of travel agencies and special hires, driving schools as well as pedestrians and specific youth groups, joined the ‘walk for road safety’ which started from different sites in the City of Kigali to Amahoro Petit stadium, where the official launch was held.

The week-long campaign is held under the theme: “Leadership for Road Safety.” Read more
