Rwandan Police peacekeepers share policing knowledge with South Sudan counterparts

Rwandan Police peacekeepers serving under the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) shared their knowledge on addressing gender based violence with their South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) counterparts.

The workshop held on January 27, was organised by the Rwanda Formed Police Unit-Three (FPU-3), a female dominated contingent deployed in the capital Juba. 

It focused on how to counter sexual and gender-based violence as well as conflicts related to sexual violence, among others. Read more

Paramedic professional course opens at Police Training School

Twenty-four Rwanda National Police (RNP) officers, on Monday, January 25, started a three-week paramedic professional course at Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.

The medical Police officers are being prepared to support Rwanda Formed Police (FPU) and Protection Support PSU) units serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The course is conducted by experts from the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). Read more

Kigali: Over 340kgs of seized narcotics disposed of

Rwanda National Police (RNP) disposed of assorted narcotic drugs, including 348kgs of cannabis, which were seized from dealers in separate operations conducted in Nyarugenge and Kicukiro districts.

The public destruction exercise held on Friday, January 29, at Nduba landfill in Gasabo District was witnessed by the Police and prosecution officials.

The disposed of narcotics also include 300 grams of heroin and kanyanga.Read more

Gakenke: Police recovers stolen motorcycle

Police in Gakenke District, on Friday, January 29, recovered a motorcycle which was stolen from one Jean de la Croix Rubugo.

The motorcycle TVS plate number RD 150J was recovered from a house located in Mataba Sector, Buyanga Cell, Gashingira Village.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alex Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said the motorcycle was stolen in the night of January 28, at about 10pm. Read more

Burera: Police seize over 2,000 litres of illicit brew from illegal distiller

A man identified as Jean de la Paix Nsengiyumva was arrested on January 27, in Rugarama Sector of Burera District for running an illegal brewery and distilling illicit alcoholic drinks.

Nsengiyumva was operating the distillery from his home located in Karangara Cell where Police and local leaders recovered 2,130 litres of illicit brew. Read more

Police arrest driver who ploughed into gathering

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has arrested a man, who was seen in a video footage ploughing his vehicle into a gathering on Tuesday night in City of Kigali.Fabrice Ndayisaba was driving the vehicle plate number RAC 176H, which ploughed into the gathering at about 11pm at Mushumba Mwiza in Remera, Gasabo District as they celebrated a win by the national team football team, Amavubi, who beat Togo 3-2 to progress into the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) that is underway in Cameroon. However, no one was hurt in the process.Read more

COVID-19: 54 caught for flouting sports directives

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has apprehended 54 people in City of Kigali, who flouted the directives to engage in public sports and physical activities.

They were arrested on different roads in Kigali on Tuesday evening where they were found jogging and in other sports activities, majority in groups.

This was to enforce the directives, which prohibits such public sports as they are deemed risky to spread the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more

Rutsiro: Police seize 72kgs of minerals from illegal dealer

An illegal mineral dealer identified as Alex Manibirimo was arrested on Monday, January 25, in Rutsiro District with about 72 kilogrammes of Coltan and Wolfram.

Manibirimo, 22, was arrested in Manihira Sector, Haniro Cell in Gisunzu Village with a sack of the mixed minerals. Read more 

Kigali: Police arrest 27 in house parties

Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested 27 people in City of Kigali for holding house parties, contrary to the national directives on containing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The violators, all young people, had organised three separate house parties and were at the time found drinking. Read more
