IGP Munyuza attends Mozambique Police Anniversary

At the invitation of his counterpart, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza joined Mozambique Police on Friday to mark the 44th anniversary of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM).

IGP Munyuza and his counterparts from other African countries laid wreaths at the Heroes square in honour of Mozambique fallen Heroes especially those who died during the liberation struggle. Read more

Police officers complete 'basic counter terrorism course'

A total of 67 Police officers, on Friday, completed a five-month 'basic counter terrorism course' at the Counter Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) Mayange in Bugesera District.

The pass out was presided over by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Felix Namuhoranye.

"The Rwanda National Police leadership is aware that the course you have completed is very demanding but rewarding; it is beneficial to you, the institution and your country," DIGP Namuhoranye said. Read more

Road Safety: RNP launches ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ campaign

The Government of Rwanda, on Monday, launched a 52-week road safety campaign to sensitize all categories of road users on traffic rules and regulations so as to promote road safety in the country.

The 52-Week campaign dubbed Gerayo Amahoro (Arrive Alive) is meant to develop and implement sustainable road safety strategies and programs, increase road safety awareness towards mindset change to prevent road carnage.

The campaign was conducted concurrently in all bus terminals across the country where drivers, motorcyclists, heads of transport agencies, cyclists, pedestrians and passengers converged. Read more

Gerayo Amahoro campaign extended to schools


The government road safety campaign dubbed ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ loosely translated as ‘arrive safely’ was on Wednesday extended to schools across the country.

The 52 week-long campaign launched on Monday by Rwanda National Police (RNP), government and private transport agencies is meant to reverse the rate of fatalities on road.

On Wednesday, Police officers across the country engaged students, especially those in schools near main roads, on traffic rules and rights of different road users.

While addressing more than 7500 students of Groupe Scolaire Kagugu, Commissioner of Police (CP) Bruce Munyambo, the Commissioner for Community Policing said that students must beware of road traffic regulations and use the road responsibly to avoid being hit by vehicles, motorcycles and cyclists or causing accident. IGP Munyuza commends youth volunteers’ role in policing


The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza has hailed young people’s critical contribution to maintaining national security and said the youth have a duty to do everything possible to prevent any drawbacks.

The IGP made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing representatives of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) and District Community Liaison Officers drawn from all districts across the country.

The meeting held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters aimed at further streamlining their human security activities.

IGP Munyuza commended their unique community mobilization and human security activities in fighting and preventing crimes, and other human security activities dedicated to uplifting the social wellbeing of Rwandans. Read more

Private security firms urged on vigilance

Private Security Service Providers (PSSP) have been urged to be vigilant in their day-to-day duties to supplement efforts towards sustainable security.

The call was made on Tuesday by the Commissioner for PSSP, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean-Nepomuscene Mbonyumuvunyi while opening four-day training for KK security top managers.

Private security companies are licensed and supervised by Rwanda National Police (RNP).

ACP Mbonyumuvunyi said that practical cooperation and information sharing in particular, between RNP and private security firms is inevitable in fighting and preventing crimes. Read more

Police warn against illegal mining


Police in Rulindo District, last Thursday, arrested two men over illegal mining activities.

The suspects; Patrick Ntakirutimana, 24, and Callixte Nshimiyimana, 27, were caught red-handed mining wolfram.

They had already mined at least 17kgs of wolfram, which they were caught with during the operation. Read more

Fresh drive to make taxi-motos safer

On May 6, Rwanda joined the rest of the world to mark the 5th United Nations global road safety campaign. It can at the time when motorcycle taxi operators in Rwanda are increasingly being faulted for reckless riding, drug and alcohol abuse as well as abetting crime.

In Rwanda, motorcycle taxi, or taxi-moto, is the most popular means of transport because of its flexibility, especially in urban centres where traffic congestion is relatively high. It is also affordable and can navigate through the poor road network in rural areas with ease.

According to the Federation of Motorcycle Taxi Operators (FERWACOTAMO), there are 45,000 motorcycle taxi operators across the country, with 25,000 based in Kigali. Read more

Kamonyi: Two drivers arrested over bribery


Police in Kamonyi District, on Wednesday, detained two drivers after they allegedly attempted to bribe traffic officers.

The suspects, both truck drivers identified as Fabien Ngizamahoro and Desire Imaniraguha were arrested separately along Kamonyi-Kigali highway.

They had violated varied traffic rules, and the bribe was meant to prevent further penalties, Police said. Read more
