IGP Namuhoranye receives Jordan’s Director of Public Security for bilateral talks
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) CG Felix Namuhoranye, on Tuesday, August 4, received the Director of Public Security of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Major General Obeidallah Abedrabbuh Maaitah, and his delegation at Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.
The meeting was held as part of Maj Gen Maaitah's three-day official visit to Rwanda and focused on strengthening cooperation in policing and public security through experience sharing and joint efforts to address emerging security challenges.
Welcoming the delegation, CG Namuhoranye said the visit reflects the growing partnership between the RNP and the Jordan Public Security Directorate, as well as the strong bilateral relations between Rwanda and Jordan. Read More...
CG Namuhoranye calls for stronger regional cooperation against transnational crime
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Chairperson of the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO), CG Felix Namuhoranye, on Wednesday, August 5, called for stronger regional cooperation, timely intelligence sharing and innovation to combat transnational crime.
He made the call while delivering the keynote address during the third day of the Operation Usalama Comprehensive Review Meeting in Kigali, which brings together delegates from EAPCCO and the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO).
CG Namuhoranye said the meeting provides an opportunity to assess the achievements of Operation Usalama, draw lessons from previous operations and identify measures to improve future joint efforts. Read More...
Interior Minister Biruta receives Jordan's Director of Public Security
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Vincent Biruta, on Wednesday, August 5, received the Director of Public Security of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Major General Obeidallah Abedrabbuh Maaitah, who was accompanied by the Inspector General of the Rwanda National Police (RNP), Commissioner General (CG) Felix Namuhoranye, and his delegation, for a courtesy call at the Ministry of Interior in Kigali.

Fight against substandard alcoholic beverages intensifies
Operations against the production and distribution of substandard alcoholic beverages have intensified, as law enforcement agencies target activities suspected of putting public health, safety and community wellbeing at risk.
On Saturday, August 8, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) presented 16 suspects at RIB Headquarters in Kimihurura, Kigali, in connection with the operations. They include six industry owners and 10 employees from facilities that were closed over alleged violations related to the production of substandard alcoholic beverages in Kigali.
RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, said consumption of substandard alcoholic beverages, particularly illicit spirits commonly known as “ibyuma”, is associated with behaviours that can undermine public order, including violence, assault, domestic conflicts and misuse of household resources. Joint operation destroys over 470,000 litres of ethanol in Kigali crackdown
More than 470,000 litres of ethanol used in the production of illicit alcoholic beverages were destroyed in Kigali on Wednesday, August 5, during a joint operation involving Rwanda National Police, local authorities and other security agencies, as the nationwide crackdown on substandard beverages continues.
The ethanol had been seized during enforcement operations across the three districts of the City of Kigali before being transported to a secure location for disposal.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Wellars Gahonzire, the Police spokesperson for the Central region, said the exercise is part of ongoing multi-agency efforts to eliminate substances used in the manufacture of illicit alcoholic beverages and protect public health. Read More...
