[PHOTOS]: Minister Mukantabana calls for extra caution against fire outbreak

The Minister of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs, Seraphine Mukantabana, has commended the Rwanda National Police (RNP) efforts to fight and prevent fire outbreak.

The Minister, who was speaking yesterday in Prime economic zone in Masoro, Gasabo District to launch the campaign against fire outbreak, said that measures taken including community awareness and increasing its response capabilities protect Rwandans against disasters. Read more

Women urged to be active in fight against GBV and child abuse

Police in Rubavu District met with members of the National Women’s Council and urged them to strengthen their effort in raising awareness and fight against gender based violence.

The women are from the sectors of Rugerero, Nyundo, Kanama, Rubavu, Nyakiriba and Kanzenze.

While addressing the women in Rubavu, the District Community Liaison Officer, Inspector of Police (IP) Solange Nyiraneza, said: “We must all stand up and say enough is enough; let’s not just talk…let’s be guided by actions against gender based violence and child abuse.”

“Police has been at the forefront in the fight against these vices but the success of this campaign rests in the hands and hearts of everyone and you in particular,” added IP Nyiraneza. Read more 

Police Training School light 166 homes

The Minister of Education Dr. Papias Musafiri Malimba, yesterday, inaugurated solar home systems that were connected to 166 households of Agatare Village in Gati Cell, Gishari Sector of Rwamagana District.

The solar energy was donated by Police Training School (PTS) together with one of its wings – Gishari Integrate Polytechnic (GIP) – and Officer Cadet Intake 9.

The Minister was accompanied by the Commandant of PTS, Commissioner of Police (CP) Vianney Nshimiyimana,  the mayor of  Rwamagana District and the principal of GIP among  others. Read more  

[PHOTOS]: Police Week: More 200 homes connected to solar in Rubavu and Nyamasheke

he Police Week activities continued Tuesday in Rubavu and Nyamasheke Districts where close to 200 households were installed with solar energy systems courtesy of Rwanda National Police.

In Rubavu District, the official handover of the 64 solar energy systems was presided over by the Western Region Governor Alphone Munyentwari together with the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), in charge of Administration and Personnel Juvenal Marizamunda. Read more

[PHOTOS]: Police Week activities are part of Rwanda's liberation - Minister Busingye

he Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnston Busingye has described activities of Police Week as part of Rwanda’s liberation process that is currently tailored at ensuring welfare of the people, steady and sustainable development of the country.

He made the remarks yesterday in Gasabo District where he also handed over solar power systems to 56 households in Agahinga Village, Muko Cell of Jali Sector.

“Liberation was not only about ending the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi; it was also about a bigger picture that captured the shape and the lifestyle of the people after. This is the new aspect of the liberation struggle, we must work hard to ensure we take our country to a higher level, and Police Week activities are linked to Rwanda’s continuous liberation struggle,” said Minister Busingye. Eastern Province: Governor commend role of media on security and governance

The Governor of the Eastern Province, Judith Kazayire has hailed the contribution of the media in security and socio-economic transformation of communities.

The Governor was speaking on Thursday in Rwamagana District during a Rwanda National Police (RNP) interaction session with the media fraternity operating in the Eastern Province.

She, however, said that although the media is the public watchdog and mouthpiece for the community, it should do so with utmost ethical standards.

“In exercising your duties, you should do so taking into account public interests rather than misleading them,” Governor Kazayire said. Read more

Police Week: over 400 Irondo personnel trained on firefighting

The Fire and Rescue Brigade at Rwanda National Police yesterday offered basic skills in fire fighting to 405 members of local night patrol, also known as irondo as part of the activities marking the police week.

Those trained operate in the sectors of Gikondo, Kagarama and Gatenga of Kicukiro District. They were also tutored on enhancing community involvement in crime prevention and reporting.

The exercise was presided over by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Baptiste Seminega the Commanding Officer of Fire and Rescue Brigade along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Emmanuel Hitayezu the spokesperson of Central Region, and the representative of Gikondo Executive Secretary Jean de Dieu Hanyurwimfura.
