Djibouti Police Chief visit RNP
Director General of Djibouti Police Force, Col. Abdillah Abdi Farah, paid a courtesy call to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana at the General Headquarters in Kacyiru, where the two Chiefs of Police discussed issues related to ‘Police-Police cooperation.
Col. Abdillah, who was in the country to formalize partnership with other security institutions including the directorate of emigration, was also accompanied by the Chief of Emigration of Djibouti among other senior members of his delegation.
IGP Gasana said that Rwanda National Police (RNP) committed to “strategic cross-border cooperation.” Read more
Rwandan peacekeepers mark 23rd Liberation anniversary
Rwandan Police, military and prison peacekeepers in Central African Republic, Haiti, South Sudan and Darfur, spared time off their peacekeeping duties to mark the 23rd Liberation anniversary, observed every July 4.
The peacekeepers were joined by Rwandans in Diaspora and friends of Rwanda in the mission countries, as well as senior UN staff in the four missions
The separate events were presided over by top government and UN officials.
In Haiti, the Liberation activities included a Medal Parade where Rwandan police peacekeepers were awarded the UN medals of service excellence. Read more
Police-Media interaction sessions extended to Northern, Southern Provinces
The Police-Media interaction sessions proceeded with the fourth episode held in Southern Region where journalists, Police officers and local leaders shared experiences that aimed at collectively serving the interests of the public.
The session in the Southern Province presided over by governor Marie-Rose Mureshyankano came a day after a similar one was held in the Northern Province and presided over by the Provincial Executive Secretary Paul Jabo.
The series of interactive sessions are aimed at enhancing partnership between the police and the media, share experiences and best practices in serving public interests, crime prevention and advancing public safety.
Similar sessions were previously held in the Eastern and Western Provinces; they drew mostly journalists operating the respective provinces, Police officers and local leaders. Read more
Rwandan Police peacekeepers in South Sudan in drive against GBV
The Rwanda Formed Police Unit (RWAFPU II) currently deployed in the capital Juba under the UN Mission in South Sudan joined efforts to raise awareness against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (GBV).
The awareness is being conducted through a football tournament organized by the UN mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), to which Rwanda police peacekeepers took part.
The tournament brought together 8 football teams including RWAFPU II , UNMISS Female Team, IDP Female Team, Nepal I FPU, China Battalion, Ethiopia Battalion, Nepal Battalion, IDPs (PoC I) and IDPs (PoC III).
The RWAFPU II beat Ethiopia 3-1 before seeing off Nepal 1with a 2-1 win to qualify for the finals.
The Rwandan peacekeepers will play PoC1 in the finals.
Men and women from the RFPU II showcased the Rwandan culture through performing some dances; this attracted a throng of IDPs. Read more
Ngororero: Vehicle intercepted with over 1 tonne of smuggled minerals
Police in Ngororero District impounded a Toyota Land Cruiser with 1 ton and 46kgs of untagged coltan, which were at the time being smuggled.
The vehicle registration number RAB 038E was intercepted in the night of July 5 in Kavumu Sector.
The driver identified as Sylvestre Harerimana, who was the only person on board at the time, was also arrested, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Theobald Kanamugire, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said.
The interception came less than a month after police in the same district, impounded a truck that was found illegally transporting two tons of amethyst stones - a bright shining purple stone that is often used in pricey jewelry. Read more
Karongi: Four arrested over currency counterfeit
Four men were arrested in Karongi District for allegedly circulating counterfeit currencies.
Police spokesperson for the Western region, Chief Inspector of Police(CIP) Theobard Kanamugire said that the quartet was arrested separately with Rwf65, 000, all forged.
He identified the suspects currently detained at Rubengera Police station as Joseph Uwimana, 36, Jean Bosco Dusabimana, 23, Steve Gakwandi and Marcel Kamayirese, 35.
Joseph Uwimana was arrested with counterfeit notes amounting to Rwf55, 000, in Rwf5, 000 denominations. Read more
Illicit brew distilleries discovered in Gatsibo
Police in Gatsibo District discovered and dismantled two distilleries in Gihuta Cells of Rugarama Sector that were producing illicit brew.
Two alleged owners of the distilleries were also arrested in two separate operations conducted in the wee morning hours of Wednesday.
One of the suspects; Alexandre Mutabazi was packing the illicit drink called Inkumburwa in Heineken bottles. Police recovered about 1200 packed bottles and 13 packed jerrycans in Mutabazi’s house.
It is said that Mutabazi was using banana juice, sugar and water to make Inkumburwa drink. Read more
Police FC sign five new players
Police Football Club signed six new players to bolster its squad ahead of the new season, the club spokesperson said.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Jean de Dieu Mayira said that the new signed players include the pair of Bertrand Iradukunda and David Nzabanita both from Bugesera FC; Mustapha Nsengiyumva and Fiston Munezero both from Rayon Sports, and Issa Zapy Ishimwe.
CIP Mayira also said that Olivier Usabimana, who has been on loan in Marine FC, has been recalled.
“Last season, the club showcased a relative good performance in comparison with previous seasons, but we want to go far beyond just second place to winning trophies in the coming season, and ensure impressive performance even in continental tournaments,” Mayira said. Read more
