RNP join Rwandans in Umuganda

Rwanda National Police (RNP) joined Rwandans across the country to participate in the monthly Umuganda community service which has over the years proved crucial to Rwanda's socio-economic development.

On Saturday February 28, several officers attached to the RNP Headquarters in Kacyiru came together to conduct community work in Kacyiru, where activities included slashing grown grass, cleaning water channels and clearing pavements among other works.

Speaking  after the exercise, the Deputy Commissioner General of Police (DCGP) Stanley Nsabimana, Commissioner for Engineering and Production department, urged the officers to always be active and participate in home-grown development initiatives.

"It is through home-grown solution activities that our country will realise it's development targets; therefore we must all work hard and put our energy together towards transformation of our communities and the country," he said.

"Our primary work is to maintain law and order but we are also obliged to utilise our energy and participate in national development programmes," he said.

"Through Umuganda, we also get a crucial channel through which we interact with residents and get vital information that facilitate in enforcing the law by preventing or detaching crime. We should keep up this work," he said.

He also urged the officers to use such events as a channel of communication with the residents, through which they can discuss challenges and solutions to community challenges at hand or likely to arise.
