Last week, 33 Police officers operating in different parts of the country completed three-day training in areas of sports at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District.
According to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Gerard Ntare, the Director of Sports in Rwanda National Police, said sports is one way of keeping an officer health, fit and energetic, and one of the tools the force uses in community policing.
“Sports are health requirements which RNP attaches value and emphasizes. Police officers need to always be gymnastics because it is one way how they will also be flexible, quick and energetic in their policing demands,” CSP Ntare said.
“These trainees will act as catalysts of sports development in the force as they will train others in areas of their operation.”
Currently, RNP has a football and handball clubs with excellent performance on the national scene. The coach of the handball club, AIP Antoine Ntabanganyimana also doubles as the manager of the national hand ball team.
Police officers have also represented the force and the country in local, regional and international sports competitions, where they have secured medals.
Police Constable Console (PC) Console Birori is an active members of the National Taekwondo Team where has performed very well in the past.
She won a gold medal during the Ambassadors Cup last year. The 24-year old martial art player added the medal to other four silverwares in her career she won during the previous Ambassadors Cup, Never Again Genocide, Uganda Open Championship and the Gorilla Open.
AIP Sylvestre Twajamahoro has also won medals both on local and international Karate competitions.
