Rwanda National Police (RNP) held a special dinner on Friday in honour of the students, who are completing the year-long 'Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC)' at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District.
Thirty Police students of the 7th PSCSC intake from nine African countries are set to graduate next week.
The countries are Central African Republic (CAR), Nigeria, Liberia, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Namibia, and the host Rwanda.
While speaking at the dinner held at NPC, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, thanked all those who who contributed to the success of the course.
"Course participants, this dinner has been prepared in recognition of your resilience during the one- year long course. We salute our colleagues, “allied students”, for your courage and perseverance despite being far away from their beloved ones," DIGP Marizamunda said.
He observed that this has been an intensive "learning and growth" academic and professional journey that reminds them of their duty.
"Our purpose as Police officers, we need to understand that above all, we are professionals entrusted with the protection of people and their property. We must be clear that if and when we are called into action, we deliver to the expectations of our people and our respective government," the Deputy Police Chief said.
To be successful, he said, one must anticipate and embrace the constant changes in a very complex and dynamic policing environment, adding that as leaders they are expected to guide their subordinates to success.
"We must understand our purpose and our challenging role as leaders, we must play our part in building our respective nations; we must always bear in mind that the security and safety of our compatriots and countries are 'our raison d’etre' and form a strong foundation for sustainable development," he said.
The PSCSC career and professional programme offers a master's degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Transformation.
It also covers strategic command and professional policing, executive leadership as well as strategic management.
