The Rwanda National Police (RNP) on June 16, handed to Kenya Police two Kenyan registered vehicles that were recovered in Rwanda.
The vehicles; Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Rover said to have been stolen in Kenya, were recovered in Rusizi district recently.
The vehicles were handover to Investigator Moses Gutuathi and Corporal Emmanuel Ngetich at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru.
Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Damas Gatare said the vehicles were recovered after investigations by both Rwanda and Kenya Police forces.
"We received information from Interpol Kenya about the theft and that robbers could have used Rwanda as a transit to the Democratic Republic of Congo and we started investigations," ACP Gatare said.
"We intercepted the vehicles in Rusizi district as they crossed to Rwanda from the DRC and arrested were also handed to Kenya authorities," he added.
The Land Rover had been given a new Burundian number plate while the Land Cruiser was at the time wearing a DRC number.
“Though criminals don't respect borders, they must know that wherever they try to hide, they will be arrested and brought to book” ACP Gatare said.
He appealed to the public to always ask for original certificates before purchasing cars and any other goods to falling prey of organized criminals.
Gituathi said the vehicles were stolen in Nairobi and Nakuru in February this year.
“We have a good working relationship with Rwanda National Police and because of their professionalism, they were able to recover the vehicles,”Gituathi said.
“We are very grateful for the good work by Rwanda Police. I am certain owners who are waiting for their cars, will also appreciate the noble work,” Corporal Ngetich, said.l
