RNP, Gasabo donate five motorcycles to commercial cyclists

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the District of Gasabo have pledged five motorcycles to the youth association of commercial cyclists operating in Gasabo as a way of supporting them in their development activities.

The pledge was announced on May 28 by the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana and the Mayor of Gasabo, Willy Ndizeye while meeting members of the association called ‘Imbaraga z’igihugu kandi z’ubaka’ [strength of national development], in Kimironko sector.

The IGP also pledged another Rwf1 million to the association.

The Police Chief urged them to always “think big” adding that the donation is meant to support them to take another step in their personal development, to being commercial motorcycle operators.

He noted that security also includes one’s well-being adding that security is the foundation to development.

“Development is based on security of persons and their property and even their status of life; there will be no sustainable security if people are still poor or don’t move further in their development initiatives,” IGP Gasana observed.

He also urged them to strengthen their cooperation with Police and other security organs to fight and prevent crimes like trade and consumption of illicit drugs by providing information on people involved.

IGP Gasana as asked them to ignore misleading information and instead concentrate on their development activities.

The RNP believes poverty is also a security threat, which has prompted it to also include ensuring human security among its activities.

Early this year, the force donated Rwf1 million to commercial motorcycle operators in Musanze District and last year, the force gave out five cows to poor families, paid medical insurance for 500 families and distributed other 500 mosquito nets.

Mayor Ndizeye also urged the cyclists to work hard to improve their well-being and their families.

“Actually we never expected this and we are so happy for this donation. It’s good to see that in whatever you are doing, people appreciate and support you to take another step,” Thacien Rwakibibi, one of the beneficiaries said.

“This is a big boost to continue to develop as an association but also as an individual to fight poverty and also play a great role towards sustainable security,” Rwakibibi added.
