RNP extends community policing practices to Rwesero students

Rwanda National Police (RNP) took its community policing practices to Petit Seminaire Saint Dominique Saivio de Rwesero on September 15, as part of the its continuous efforts to forge strong partnership to fight and prevent crimes to further enforce safety and security in the country.

The interaction included a friendly football match between RNP and the school, and discussions that enlightened the students on their role in crime prevention through community policing.

The football march ended 5-2 in favour of the law enforcers.

While addressing the students and the teaching staff shortly after the friendly game, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Theos Badege, the RNP spokesperson, reminded the over 400 students that Rwanda's security framework is mainly built on the strong partnership with the people and the youth in particular to foster sustainable peace and security.

He urged the youth to be active agents in fighting, among others, illicit drugs and consumption of alcoholic beverages.

"Illicit drugs are dangerous to your health and your future; some of your agemates and colleagues have dropped out of school because of the influence of drugs and even parents have messed up their families because of these psychotropic substances," ACP Badege said.

He noted that Petit Seminaire Saint Dominique Saivio de Rwesero, being a faith-based school upholds the benefits of non-indulgence in any form of lawlessness, and asked students to be ambassadors of change by alerting their mentors whenever they realize that anyone is indulging in unlawful acts.

Rev. Father Paul Gahutu, the principal of the seminary lauded RNP for engaging with the students and the communities in general to curb illegality

Police also donated soccer kits to the school football team including balls, which is also part of the force's effort to support sports development in the country.
