The Rwanda National Police has donated Rwf1 million to commercial motorcycle operators in Kicukiro district to improve their well-being.
The donation was announced on October 13 by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Munyuza during a meeting with over 3300 commercial motorcyclists operating in the zones of Kanombe, Gikondo and Kicukiro held at Kicukiro artificial turf.
DIGP Munyuza noted that RNP is committed to community development and appealed to motorcyclists to be part of community policing and crime prevention in particular.
He asked them respect traffic rules and be vigilant with people they transport and luggage in order not to facilitate illegal acts.
"Your lives and that of others you transport is valuable and by respecting road traffic rules your will be preventing accidents," DIGP Munyuza said.
Motorcycles are among major cause of accidents.
He further appealed to them to partner with police in fighting and preventing crimes such as human and drug trafficking, gender and domestic violence.
The mayor of Kicukiro Paul Jules Ndamage also appealed to them to organise themselves in cooperatives and work with security organs in the crime prevention campaign.
