The Rwanda National Police has donated Rwf2 million to fifteen cooperatives of commercial motorcyclists in Rubavu district as part of the force's human security initiatives towards poverty alleviation.
The financial package was announced on October 22 by the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana during a meeting with the motorcyclists in Rubavu.
IGP Gasana asked them to value their profession and work together to improve their livelihoods and those of their families.
"The work you do contributes not only to your family development but the country in general. Any step forward in your well-being means the country's economy is also growing and that's what you should strive for," the IGP said.
He also reminded them of their role in the ongoing campaign against crimes and urged them to strengthen cooperation with Police to prevent crimes.
He further urged them to fight crimes like drug abuse, domestic and gender based violence and human trafficking.
The Police Chief also appealed to them to be vigilant of people and luggage they transport to avoid being used in illegal acts, and also report anyone they suspect of indulging in illegal or criminal activities.
He further asked them to shun genocide denials, who want to turn the country back and to open wounds of survivors.
Gafora Sentibagwe, the coordinator of the cooperatives thanked Rwanda National Police for the financial support and pledged strengthened partnership to report anything unlawful and anything that can cause insecurity.
