The activities to mark the Rwanda National Police 14th anniversary and 20th liberation celebrations continued on June 10 in the Southern Province where the force handed over a house it constructed to a vulnerable genocide survivor in Nyanza district.
The house located in Busasamana sector valued at Rwf9 million has a water tank and modern cooking stove and is among the five houses the RNP will construct for vulnerable genocide survivors in Nyanza.
The maiden beneficiary, Felicitee Mukankundiye thanked the Rwanda National Police for the donation.

“I don’t have enough words to express my joy today. It is beyond my understanding. These are fruits of good leadership spearheaded by our President. Merci beaucoup (thank you) President Paul Kagame,” the joyful Mukankundiye said.
Police also donated 420 mobile phones to heads of Villages in the district to ease timely information sharing in fighting and preventing crimes.
There was also a competition in poems and songs that promote crime prevention through fighting crimes like drug abuse, corruption and domestic violence and strengthening Police-public partnership in which winners; Vincent Twahirwa and Bizumuremyi Mugabe respectively were also awarded Rwf200, 000 each.
The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana thanked Nyanza residents for their continued cooperation in ensuring security.
“What the country has so far achieved in the past twenty years is due to sustained peace and security driven by good governance” IGP Gasana said.
He appealed to the residents to continue sharing information with security organs on anything that may threaten their security.
He also pledged construction of an office block for Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Busasamana sector and buy a motorcycle for the head of CPCs in the sector
Alphonse Munyentwari, the Governor of the Southern Province commended the RNP for supporting and providing shelter to poor families.
Munyentwari called upon residents to ignore rumors which might destruct them from their development initiatives and instead reinforce security for their own good.
He also disclosed that the Ministry of Local Government will also constrict other five houses to vulnerable genocide survivors in the district.
The exercise started with a walk by students, the business community, residents to Nyanza stadium where the event was held.
It was also attended by mayors of all districts in the Southern Province.
