The Rwanda National Police (RNP), on September 10, deployed the last batch of 106 Police officers under the United Nations Multi-dimensional stabilization mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
They are part of the contingent of 140 officers including 14 girls, who will be stationed in CAR for one year peacekeeping mission under Rwanda Formed Police Unit (RWAFPU1).
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, presided over the official send off at Kigali international airport and at about 9:00am.
Present were also other senior officers.
The officers arrived at Bangui international airport at about 10:00am CAR time and were received by Chief Supt. Benoit Kayijuka, the contingent commander before heading to their base at the National Police College, about 15 kilometres from the airport.
Rwanda is ahead of CAR by one hour.
Rwanda was the first nation start the deployment of Police officers last Monday, a move that was welcomed by CAR President, Catherine Samba-Panza describing it as a “noble initiative to prevent criminal activities” that might arise ahead of the September 15, the official start of the UN-backed mission.
CSP Kayijuka reminded the officers to stay focused to the mission mandate.
“Readiness, discipline, upholding core values and staying focused will make our mission a success,” CSP Kayijuka told the officers.
He challenged them to put into action all that they learnt during the pre-deployment training.
The contingent will be based in the capital Bangui and will be conducting patrols, ensure protection of VIPs, key installations and other escort duties.
