Rwanda National Police (RNP) has called for more efforts against drug dealing, following the recent seizure of 200 liters of Kanyanga, a banned gin in Rwanda and about two kilogrammes of cannabis.
The drugs were seized in various operations conducted in various locations in Gasabo, Gisagara Districts.
The central region Police Spokesperson Supt, Modeste Mbabazi said six people were arrested during the operations in connection with the acts.
He hailed the role played by residents in availing information that led to the seizure of the drugs and arrest of the suspected dealers.
He urged Rwandans to desist from consuming drugs, saying that they lead to very many crimes including assault, theft, domestic and gender based crimes.
He also cited unwanted pregnancies, school drop-outs and early parenthood among other negative effects associated with drugs.
“We are seeing a tremendous decrease in drug dealing, but our target is to have a society that is free of illicit drugs and the general public’s role in this campaign is paramount to report those individuals that still involv e in it,” he noted.
He urged the general population to collectively combat drug abuse and the use of other illegal substances and report those involved in time.
