Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) has awarded Rwanda National Police (RNP) as one of good performers in service delivery.

This was announced on July, 17, by Prof. Shyaka Anastase, the Chief Executive Officer of RGB at a function to recognize institutions that emerged best performers in service quality under the campaign dubbed: “Nk’uwikorera”.

The campaign launched in March, intended to foster the culture of quality service delivery in both public and private institutions, and encourage service providers and consumers to embrace the tradition of service excellence.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Celestin Twahirwa, commissioner for Community Policing , who received the award on behalf of RNP, said that the award gives us more strength to perform even better.

According to Prof. Shyaka Anastase, Nk’uwikorera campaign is expected to boost the level of service delivery to help the country to reach the set target.

“Service delivery is at the heart of all policing activities at all levels,. RNP focuses on building capacity of its personnel to provide best services,” said ACP Twahirwa.

“Through police reforms and continued service improvements, RNP has introduced several innovations and technologies which have raised the level of service satisfaction,” he said.

He mentioned the recent, rollout of a hi-tech traffic management system, installation of speed governors to further prevent road traffic, online reporting of crime, establishment of police station in each of the 416 sectors across the country, establishment of the anti-GBV desk and scale-up of Isange One Stop Centre as well as toll-free lines as some of the many channels through which the force tries to extend its services closer to the people.

RNP currently has nine toll-free lines to serve different purposes.

They include 112 for emergency, 113 (road safety), 111 (fire and rescue), 110 (maritime), 116 (child-help line), 997 (anti-corruption), Isange One Stop Centre (3029 for GBV and Child abuse) and 3511 for Complaint against Police officer.

Isange offers free medical, legal and psycho-socio services to victims of gender based violence (GBV) and child abuse, while the mobile police station extends services to people far from police stations.

Isange also offers 24/7 free referral and specialized services like medico-legal, gynecology and obstetrics, mental health, legal and investigation, psychosocial, safe room and social integration services.

In December last year, RNP in partnership with Transparency International-Rwanda launched the ‘Citizen Service Charter’ which illustrates the rights of those seeking police services, and obligations of officers to service seekers.
