Police in Rulindo and Nyamasheke districts conducted an awareness campaign against crimes with a call for public and commercial motorcycle operators in particular to strengthen their cooperation in fighting drug abuse and domestic violence.
In Rulindo, the awareness was held in Masoro sector where hundreds of residents of Kivugiza, Gasiza and Shengamure II cells converged to share ideas on how to combat GBV and trade and consumption of illicit drugs.
The exercise also included the destruction about 120 litres kanyanga, an illicit gin seized in the area in the past weeks.
The District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police Sano Nkeramugaba asked residents to work closely with Police by reporting especially those selling and consuming cannabis because most of the dealers and abusers are their neighbours.
In Nyamasheke, Inspector of Police Deo Mutabaruka appealed to commercial motorcycle operators organized under a French acronym cooperative – COTRAMONYA – to respect traffic rules to avoid likely accidents and loss of lives.
He cautioned them against operating without required documents like driving licence, insurance, reflector jackets and helmets.
The exercise is in line with the RNP 14th anniversary and 20th liberation celebration framework.
