Residents have an important role in the fight against crime, first by abiding with the law and secondly by collaborating with Police to apprehend those involved in illegal acts.
The Nyarugenge District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Inspector of Police (IP) Claude Budaraza, made the call on 18 December during a meeting with residents of Kimisagara sector in the district.
He advised them to avoid the consumption of narcotics and illicit brew, which are usually the root inducers of homicide and other crimes in the society.
“Residents have a big role in preventing crimes; everyone should abstain from abusing drugs, but also look out for the people, especially the youth who abuse drugs and advise them out of the habit,” he said.
“We can all work together to prevent crimes before they happen. Violence is not the answer in case there is a misunderstanding – and those who want seek to destabilize the peace of others must always be reported to Police.”
The same crime prevention message was delivered by IP Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Kicukiro-DCLO to residents of Kamashashi cell of Nyarugunga sector who lauded the residents for their role in security.
IP Twizeyimana urged the residents to respect the peace of their neighbors and community by not engaging in noise pollution especially in the forthcoming festive period, and called on bar night club owners to install noise proof equipment.
He also appealed to the residents to tighten their night patrols and report in time anything that may threaten security.
