Registration for driver's license tests open

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has opened online registration for those wishing to acquire provisional and definitive driver's license.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Rafiki Mujiji, the Commissioner for Traffic and Safety Department said the registration started on Friday September 13.

“The online registration will take two weeks. Those seeking to become drivers can register using their mobile phone or through Irembo Website. The system will automatically close after the scheduled registration period and will open again in December," CP Mijiji said.

Registration process

You can go to www.irembo.gov.rw, go to services and choose what you want to register for, fill all required items and submit.

After that, you will see a message with billing number. Note that the payment must be done within only eight hours to complete the registration process.

Beyond eight hours, it expires and you will be required to reapply.

When you complete the registration process, you get a message with the code, place and date of the test, and the category you want.

For those registering using their mobile phones, you dial *909# and follow the instructions.

CP Mujiji added that those registering now will do the tests in October, November and December.

“Registration is done every after three months, that means after two weeks, registration lines will open again in December for those, who will seat for the tests in the first three months of 2020," CP Mujiji explained.

He explained that there are 59,400 slots across the country, with 36,750, provided for those seeking provisional driver's license and 22, 650 for practical tests.

“As we said, about 60, 000 people are expected to use the registration system, which means there will be jam and this is likely to affect some candidates in the process, this calls for patience and trying again."

"Rwanda National Police and other concerned organs are currently developing a strong system to address these challenges."

The Commissioner reminded the general public to beware of people, who might use this opportunity to defraud them.

“We are reminding people that police services are available for everyone, Police has no intermediaries and particularly the whole process of acquiring a driver’s license is done individually. Anyone, who solicit or give money in order to receive a driver’s license, will be breaking the law and will be arrested,” CP Mujiji warned.
