A one month Formed Police Unit Training of Trainers (ToT) course ended on July 3 at the Rwanda National Police Peace Support Operations (PSO) Training Centre in Gishari, Rwamagana District with a call for strengthened regional cooperation to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Twenty one Police officers from Ethiopia, Burundi and Rwanda took part in the course organized by RNP in partnership with the Eastern Africa Standby Force Coordination Mechanism (EASF-COM).

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, who officiated at the closing of the course, challenged trainees to be catalysts in realizing the EASF targets.

“I have no doubt that the knowledge and skills you acquired will help you train those that you left back home so that we can put all our efforts together towards achieving the EASF mandate. We believe that this kind of cooperation will provide the frame work for our forces to improve performance through shared experience and training,” DIGP Marizamunda said.

Brig. Gen Tai Gituai from EASF-COM thanked Rwanda and RNP in particular for hosting this prestigious course.

“The organization of the training was to ensure that participants are facilitated towards the commitment in operational and strengthening of the Police dimension in peace and security operations,” said Brig. Gen Gituai.

Course participants exhausted various peacekeeping areas such as Rules of engagement, UN personnel code of conduct, methods of instruction, map reading, basic police techniques, conflict resolution and decision making process.

The officers will help in training and preparing Police officers in their respective countries for peacekeeping duties.
