Gatsibo District Police Commander (DPC) Supt. Gérard Habiyambere has appealed to refugees in Nyabiheke camp to own security initiatives to fight and prevent crimes in their camp.
Supt. Habiyambere made the call on August 18 while addressing the over 14300 refugees in Nyabiheke camp.
He urged them to partner with security organs to fight criminal acts like drug abuse which are also reported in the camp and share information on anything that might affect their safety.
He explained to them how consumption of drugs like cannabis, kanyanga and other soothing substances like luring one into sexual acts, theft and fighting.
He also challenged parents and guardians to watch and monitor their children.
Jacques Barinda, the Camp manager thanked Rwanda National Police for giving them an insight in crime prevention and added that they will also put in place safety and security measures.
