Four people are detained at Kicukiro Police station after they were arrested in connection with forging bank-slips to obtain their road traffic-related confiscated documents from the traffic and road safety department.
The suspects are identified as Shaban Nzabonimpa, Anicet Menarugamba, Gilbert Mushimiyimana and Emmanuel Muvunyi.
Supt. Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi, spokesperson for the traffic department said the suspects are part of the over 300 other similar cases, which he said fall under three categories.
After drivers are handed penalty receipts for traffic offences, Supt. Ndushabandi explained, some of them forge bank-slips which they bring to collect their seized documents.
“There is one group which deposits money on their bank accounts equivalent to that on the penalty receipt and bring same bank-slips to collect their documents; others pay less and forge same bank-slips to add missing figures while others bring pay-slips with all particulars manipulated,” he explained.
“We are working with banks to ensure that all those connected to these malpractices are arrested to face justice,” he said.
