A day after about 700 litres of illicit brew was seized, destroyed and suspects arrested in Kayonza district, Police in Kicukiro district has also intercepted a vehicle carrying the same quantity in Kagina cell of Gatenga sector.

The vehicle registration number RAA 524S, Toyota Corona belongs one Théophile Ndayisabye, 36, who is said to have distilled the illegal brew.

He was arrested red-handed vending the illicit liquor locally known as Igisasu, in the area after members of the public informed police.

The illicit brew was also destroyed publicly.

The seizure and subsequent arrests of people involved is due to intensified measure against drug abuse by Rwanda National Police.

The District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police Anastase Karango said that most of those involved in such acts have been apprehended and warned anyone that could still be in such life-threatening businesses that “their luck will run-out at any time.”

He reminded hundreds of area residents who turned up for the public destruction of the dangers of consuming such illicit brews including being harmful to health and appealed to them to provide information to prevent such illegal businesses which also have ill-effects on the security.

“You have a role to fight anything that might affect your security and safety, your businesses and families,” CIP Karango said
The district Mayor, Paul Jules Ndamage also appealed to them to be responsible Rwandans, support and implement development policies and not be deviated by rumours.

Jesca Nyiraneza, an area resident appealed to fellow Rwandans to give no room for such illegal acts adding that they are the source of conflicts especially caused by men when they are under the influence of these drugs, losing control of their tempers.
