The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has asked members of the general public to stand up against child abuse particularly defilement.
The wake-up call was made on September 15, after Police recorded 3 incidents where teenage girls got defiled by adult men.
The defiled young girls are aged between 4and 8.
The Kirehe District Police Commander (DPC), Supt. Augustin Rurangirwa condemned the act, describing it as ‘in human’.
“It is unspeakable that an adult man could plot to sexually abuse a young girl,” said Sup Rurangirwa calling upon residents to join hands with Police fighting and preventing such criminal activities.
“Children, regardless of their sex, are the future leaders of this country we therefore, have a primary obligation to protect them from anything that can deprive them of their basic rights,” noted Rurangirwa.
He also appealed to parents and guardians to always watch over and monitor the movements of their children to ensure they (children) don’t become victims of defilement.
