Private security service providers have been urged to lay effective measures to prevent crimes.
The Commissioner for Operations, Commissioner of Police (CP) George Rumanzi made the call on Friday while presiding over the closure of the two-day training for top managers of private security companies.
The training was designed to further enrich their understanding and refocus their services on security and development matters.
CP Rumanzi reiterated that security companies play a vital role in security but urged them to up their standards, acquire, advanced security apparatuses to be able to detect and prevent crimes in the respective areas of their responsibility.
“Although you are profit-oriented, your operations must ensure the safety and security of the people you serve, and their property; that goes with providing security personnel with the necessary tools and welfare required to serve to the required standards," CP Rumanzi said.
He also said the security landscape today requires strong partnership and real time information on anything suspicious or likely to cause insecurity.
Continuous on-job training, monitoring and discipline, he also said, are key to detecting, preventing and fighting lawlessness.
He pledged the Rwanda National Police support in skills development through training to move with the trend.
Emmanuel Ntawiheba, the operations manager for TOPSEC said the workshop was an eye opener to contemporary security issues and a good opportunity to refresh their leadership capabilities.
“We will continue to collaborate with Rwanda National Police and Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) in ensuring that we jointly guarantee the peace and security of the people living in our country towards sustainable development,” Ntawiheba said.
