Police have advised commercial motorcyclist operating in Kamonyi District under Cooperative de Chauffers des Taxis Moto de Kamonyi (COCTAMOKA) uphold road safety and to take a lead in prevention of road carnage.
The call was made by District Police Commander of Kamonyi District, Superintendent of Police (SP) Marc Minani during meeting with members of COCTAMOKA on April 19 that aimed at addressing issues of road safety.
In his address, SP Minani said some of the motorists have abided by traffic rules and ensured speed limits and helmet usage but hastened to add that, however there are some that have deliberately continued to violate traffic rules.
“Prevention of road accidents is a responsibility of every road user. You need to put personal efforts to abide with traffic rules and ensure road safety is maintained so as to prevent these life-taking incidents” he said.
“We also request for a full teamwork and partnership by reaching out to fellow motorcyclists and help them understand why they should prioritise safety. By doing this, you will be promoting the image of your profession so is the association you belong to” he added.
The DPC also encouraged them to always alert Police whenever they suspect that clients intend to exploit them for their criminal activities.
“Your daily undertakings are exposed to people with different intentions; you need to be a good partner in crime prevention,” he said.
The head COCTAMOKA, Jean Claude Mukurajabo hailed the Police for its continued outreach programmes saying that; “This awareness is to engage us in taking part in preventing accidents and become responsible road users. We will be working with the police to report criminals and ensure that road traffic rules are followed.”
