Two people were arrested yesterday in Bugesera district in connection with illegal felling of trees in a forest in Nyarugenge and Shyara sectors and Police in the district has issued stern warning over ill-acts of environmental degradation.
The suspects are identified as Celestin Kalisa and Antoine Twambaziyumva.
Kalisa was arrested in River Akanyaru transporting over 450 kilogrammes of the local tree plant called kabaruka while 800 kilogrammes others were recovered in Twambaziyumva house located in Kabugugu cell in Shyara sector.
Supt. Victa Vandama, the District Police Commander (DPC) said the duo was arrested thanks to the good partnership with residents, who found them cutting the trees and immediately reported to police.
“We will continue to sensitize the public on dangers of environmental degradation, but we will not hesitate to arrest anyone caught in such ill-tendencies,” Supt. Vandama said.
Supt.Vandama urged the public to continue providing Police and other organs concerned, with timely information on any illegal acts.
