Police warns over counterfeit of currency

Rwanda National Police sternly warns those involved in counterfeit of currencies, saying it is a criminal offence that is punishable by the law.

The warning follows a recent case where a resident in Nyarugenge District was on 14, arrested while in possession of three fake notes of Rwf 5,000 denomination.

Chief Superintendent Dismas Rutaganira, the Nyarugenge District Police Commander (DPC), strongly warned everyone involved in counterfeit of currencies, saying Police has devised mechanisms to arrest suspects and bring them to book.

“Counterfeit of currencies affects development of the country,” he said calling upon the public especially the business community to be very vigilant of the money they receive.

CSP Rutaganira appealed to the public to tip security organs in case they (public) have suspected some individuals to be involved in such fraudulent acts.
