The general public has been called upon to desist from taking justice in their hands instead involve concerned judicial and local institutions to iron out their grievances.
The call follows the Tuesday incident in Gatsibo district where one Emmanuel Kazamarande allegedly killed a man apparently accusing him of sexually harassing his sister.
Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kayigi, Police spokesperson for the Eastern region condemned the act.
“A crime can’t be solved by another crime instead you will be treated as a criminal; there are so many institutions even at the grass-root level such as police, mediators, local governance entities which are there ensure that justice is served,” IP Kayigi said.
He further appealed to the general population and local leaders to strengthen cooperation to identify families with conflicts to that their issues are solved before they turn violent.
He also urged them to join the campaign against crimes by providing timely information on anyone involved in illegal activities.
