Police urged to embrace Umuganda

The Director General of Territorial Administration and Governance, in the Ministry of Local Government, Fred Mufuruke, on Tuesday addressed Senior Police Officers and urged them to embrace Umuganda.

Mufuruke, who was at the Police Headquarters in Kacyiru, commended Rwanda National Police remarkable role in Umuganda and requested the force to play a big role in mobilizing the masses to participate in Umuganda through raising awareness.

He said that the turn-up for the community work in the country currently stands at 80%.

He however noted that most youths do not turn up for the activity.  “We need to sensitize our youths to embrace the activity as it symbolizes patriotism, love for the country and leads to self- reliance and dignity.”

Community work is one of the ways through which people can get to know each other and a platform to forge home grown solutions to community problems, he said.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Stanley Nsabimana commended the partnership the two institutions are enjoying citing partnership with different districts in various community activities.
