The Rwanda National Police ‘Karate-DO’ club emerged the winner in the Kata category in a competition held in Rubavu district on October 12.
The friendly competition organized by the Rubavu-based Zen Karate team under the auspice of the anti-drug abuse campaign.
Ten clubs including two from the Democratic Republic of Congo took part in the tournament.
University of Rwanda-College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR-CASS) also emerged winners in the Kumite (fighting) category.
The local clubs included; APR, Police, UR-Huye campus, Zen Karate-Do, Kayisho, Lion. The Congolese sides were Lion and Delta Force.
Assistant Inspector of Police Sylvestre Twajamahoro, team captain of the Police Kata team, said he was also happy many youths were present and a message was driven home.
“Fighting drug abuse is among the RNP priorities and we are happy we took part in this tournament to strengthen the awareness campaign,” AIP Twajamahoro noted.
The Huye campus team captain Eliya Nsengimana, said their "objective was well accomplished" and they will now focus on the national inter-college tournament as well as the East African inter-university games to be held in Kampala, Uganda on December 15.
In the team Kumite category, Zen Karate-Do emerged second, APR third and Delta Force fourth. In team Kata, Delta force was second while Zen Karate-Do was third.
