A Police targeted operation conducted on October 25 in Mukingo sector of Nyanza District seized over 1, 000 liters of the locally made illicit brew called ibikwangari.
The illicit liquids were recovered at a residential house in Kiruri cell. Police is still searching for the owner, who is still on the run.
Police also recovered four drums and five jerrycans from the house that were being used to distil the illegal brew.
Area residents, who tipped Police on the illegal act, said they were forced after the business created insecurity in their community including fighting and theft.
The illicit brew was also destroyed in presence of area residents.
Chief Inspector of Police David Nkundimana, the District Police Commander (DPC), warned all those involved in distilling and selling of Ibikwangari and other illicit brew, which he said have health consequences to consumers and cause insecurity.
He also lauded the residents for taking an upper hand to ensure own security and urged them to continue collaborating with Police and other organs to fight anything that might affect their well-being.
