A team of medical personnel from Rwanda National Police (RNP) conducted voluntary HIV testing in Musanze District, in a bid to promote healthy living and knowledge of the virus among the population.
The testing was conducted on September 13 and will run until the 19th at Musanze Stadium in Muhoza Sector and attracted police officers, residents and police partners in crime prevention such as CPCs and DASSOs.
It is led by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel Juvenal Marizamunda, who called upon Rwandans to know their HIV status in order to ensure a healthy life.
“RNP understands that law and order goes hand in hand with public health; therefore, we urge Rwandans to know their HIV status. That is why we continuously engage the public in awareness on how to protect oneself against contracting HIV/AIDS, including, abstaining from sex, being faithful to one partner or using protection," he said.
He also noted that ample counseling was provided before and after the tests to those who freely desired to know their status.
Phillip Nzabacahe, one of the residents who voluntarily tested for HIV, thanked police for the activity, which is essential in helping citizens know their health status so that they can plan for their future better.
As part of the campaign, a football friendly match was played between officers and students of the National Police College (NPC) and commercial motorcyclists, which was aimed at publicizing HIV prevention and community policing initiatives against gender-based violence and drug abuse.
After the match - which was won by the motorcyclists - DIGP Marizamunda reminded all road users to fight against road accidents by respecting road rules and signs.
