Refugees in the Nyabiheke camp in Gatsibo District were on 12 February urged to refrain from drug abuse and other sorts of criminality and instead share information with security organs to ensure peace and security within the camp.
The camp hosts a total of 14,117 Congolese refugees.
Superintendent René Irere, the Director of Community Policing in Rwanda National Police, who led a team of Police Officers that visited the camp, asked the refugees to say no to drugs and make efforts to fight and prevent other common crimes in the camp such as environmental degradation and Gender Based Violence.
Furaha Mutesi, one of the refugees lauded Police’s visit and pledged to participate towards anything that would lead to peace and security in the Camp.
Ildephonse Haguma, the Camp Manager, commended Rwanda National Police for supplying mosquito super nets, an activity which he said contributed significantly to the decrease of malaria scourge among the refugees.
A similar message was on the same day delivered to refugees in Kigeme, Munyagatare and Kiyanzi camps.
