A total of 208 officers undertaking the Police Station Commanders Course on Monday, October 5, visited key historical and policing sites in Kigali to gain practical lessons relevant to their future responsibilities.
The trainees comprise 198 Rwanda National Police (RNP) officers and 10 from the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB). They are undertaking a three-month course at the Counter Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) in Mayange, Bugesera District.
The visit took the trainees to the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi and the Campaign Against Genocide Museum, where they learned about the planning and implementation of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, as well as the role of courageous Rwandans in stopping the Genocide, rescuing targeted people, restoring peace and rebuilding the country.
They also visited the RNP Command and Coordination Centre at General Headquarters, where they learned about its role in coordinating police operations, using technology to support security and facilitating communication with citizens.
Chief Instructor at CTTC, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Methode Munyaneza, said the visits are intended to deepen the trainees' understanding of Rwanda's history and instil in them a strong sense of patriotism.

"We decided that students should undertake study visits to Rwanda's historical and heritage sites so that they can learn about and develop a better understanding of the country's history," he said.
He added that the visits also connect classroom lessons with practical experience, which is important for officers preparing to lead police stations.

"This is very important because the training prepares them to take on responsibilities such as leading police stations, working effectively with citizens and other institutions, maintaining national security, and responding to and professionally resolving issues affecting the community," he said.
The Police Station Commanders Course equips officers with leadership and operational skills to manage police stations, work effectively with communities and other institutions, and respond to security and public safety needs.
