Police in Nyarugenge District have urged community night guards Irondo to play a leading role in ensuring that security prevails in their localities.
The Irondo personnel were also urged to be vigilant and embed security awareness at all levels of the community.
This was delivered on Wednesday by Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Gorette Umutesi, the central region Police spokesperson while meeting about 250 local guards of Muhima Sector. This was during a regular police community mobilization exercise aimed at raising awareness and preventing community crimes.
CIP Umutesi mentioned that Irondo play a key complementary role in maintaining security in their localities. She, however, observed that some indulge in substance abuse which hinders their abilities to remain vigilant, and creating security gaps.
She said Rwanda National Police (RNP) is positioned to ensure security prevails while urging personal vigilance as a critical component to ensure personal safety and that of others.
“We know you are on the ground and much close to the community, do not indulge or abet crimes in the communities you serve, share information with the police and other security organs to make appropriate security” said CIP Umutesi.
They discussed the ongoing ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ (road safety campaign) and encouraged the Irondo personnel to relay the messages to members of the community.
