A team of 'Police Senior Commamd and Staff Course students currently on Africa Tour in Kenya, were on June 15 received by heads of various Police departments as they sought to learn more about security in the socio-economic development sphere.
Mr. Arrisson O. Otieno, who received the students on behalf of the Inspector General of Kenya Police Services, in apresentation, gave them an insight of the general security situation in the country, governance, foreign policy and economic development.
They were also explained on the establishment of the National Police Service (NPS), its vision, mission and values.
Mr. Otieno emphasised the importance of bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation in policing.
The team visiting Kenya is headed by Commissioner of Police Cyprian Gatete.
They also visited the Kenya Police Staff College- Loresho where they were received by the Dean of Studies CP Charles Mumanth, who also presented the mission, vision and values of the Police Staff College.
The College is conducting a Senior Command Course with three integrated programs which are Police Operations, Strategic Leadership and Master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflicts Transformation, which it condicts in partnership with Bramshill from UK and the Kenyatta University.
While at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, the delegation was received by the Deputy Director Mr. Gideon Kimilu and Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, Director of Operations.
The discussions focused on different issues such as the role and organization of the Directorate, Kenya’s security challenges, transnational crimes, bilateral and multi- lateral relationships in combating crimes, regional integration and Kenya’s foreign policy vis-à-vis national security.
They also visited the Interpol Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa where they were received by Mr. Mongi Joseph, who represented the Head of RB.
The interactions focused on the background, structure and functioning of the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO- INTERPOL), how the Interpol works with the National Bureau and the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) in combating, tracing and arresting criminals.
The week-long study tour started on June 14, with another group currently on a study tour in Namibia.
The purpose of this study tour is to broaden the students' understanding of the regional and global security perspectives and enable them to link the policy, strategy, security and development as well as peace and transformation conflicts in socioeconomic -development.
At the end of the tour, the students are expected to write a comparative paper demonstrating the relationship between the theoretical and practical parts of what was learnt in the class and what they saw during the tour.
