Security institutions conducted a joint search operation in Nyarugenge prison commonly known as 1930 and recovered assortments including 55 litres of locally brewed illicit alcohol and pellets of cannabis.
The cordon and search was conducted in the awe hours of Saturday morning by Rwanda National Police (RNP), Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) and Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS).
Others seized include match boxes, money in various currencies, cassava and millet flour and onions.
Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Damas Gatare said the operation falls under the security organs' jurisdiction.
He warned members of the public against sneaking illegal things into correctional facilities.
He appealed to them to always follow the Rwanda Correctional service guidelines and desist from bringing unlawful things when visiting their relatives and friends.
"This is a stern warning to anyone who will be caught trying to sneak illegal goods or equipment into correctional facilities will face severe consequences," ACP Gatare warned.
