Police in Bugesera District has called upon over 200 commercial motorcyclists operating Cooperative des Taxis Moto de Bugesera (COTRAMOBU) to work closely with security organs in crime prevention.
During a meeting chaired by the District Community Liaison Officer, Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Cyprien Uwitonze on January 28, he told the motorist that they play a major role in community development, reason they should take part in ensuring safety of their communities.
“Without security it would be hard for you or any other person to do your business safely, so this kind of security the country is enjoying today should be preserved by all including you the motorcyclists by working closely with security organs to identify, fight and prevent crimes in communities safe,” said AIP Uwitonze.
He added that, “among your passengers, there may be some criminals like drug traffickers, thieves and other that use your services to execute their evil plans, this is why you must be conscious at all times and report to the police anyone suspicious.”
AIP Uwitonza went on to urge them to always abide by the traffic regulations as means of ensuring road safety and also join in the fight against major crimes like Gender based violence and drug abuse.
The president of COTAMOBU, Eugene Havugimana thanked RNP for its continued partnership saying that “since 2012 when we established our cooperative, we’ve worked closely with the police and this has helped in overcoming many security challenges.”
He went on to say that motorists have decided to solidify their relationship with the police especially in the field of crime prevention.
Havugimana also urged his colleagues to take the advice from Police seriously and also ensure they always abide by traffic rules.
They committed themselves to work closely with police to ensure they play their part to preserve peace and security.
